Graduating Senior Survey Methodology


The senior survey is jointly administered by the two career development centers on campus. The University Career Development Center serves five out of the six colleges and collects information on these graduating seniors. The Walton College Career Center provides services specifically tailored to students in the Walton College of Business and maintains responsibility for administering the survey to their graduating seniors.

  • The response rate for spring 2009 was 74%.

The University Career Development Center maintains a database of students who apply for graduation each fall and spring term. Graduating seniors are emailed an invitation to participate in the survey and directed to the link that allows them to complete it online. Students use their university email login information to access the survey site. Students are permitted to login multiple times during the collection period to ensure that the most accurate, current data is captured. Additionally, faculty advisers are identified and given administrative privileges to supply or update information on students’ behalf. The Walton College Career Center surveys students primarily through a paper-based form that is distributed in courses, at graduation information sessions, and at graduation. Business faculty work collaboratively with Career Center staff to identify courses with a large number of seniors, emphasize the importance of collecting the data, and administer the survey. Also, an online form is available for students to report their post-graduation plans. The final survey data is entered into a database that is later merged with the official, cleared graduation file.
