CLA Student Assessment

University of Arkansas Participating in the Collegiate Learning Assessment

As part of a larger program to evaluate the quality of education at the University of Arkansas, we are administering the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) which provides feedback on critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem solving, and written communication skills. Approximately 100 freshmen will participate in the fall semester and 100 seniors participating in the spring semester.

These assessments are designed to show growth in achievement between students at the freshman level and the senior level. One of the primary reasons for selecting this instrument is the ability to access national comparative information. The scores should indicate whether average gains in critical thinking and writing skills are below, near, or above what one would expect at schools that have students with similar entering academic ability.

For the fall administration, students will be contacted from September 5-11, 2017. A random sample of students will be selected to receive an invitation. Participation in the exam will be completely voluntary. This research study has received IRB Approval - #17-07-023, 08/10/2017. The examination dates will include October 3 – 6.

If students have any questions, they are encouraged to contact the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment at 575-5252.
